FAQQ/ What is a LAN? A/ LAN stands for Local Area Network . Basically it's a room full of computers that are joined to each other via cables. Q/ Why have a LAN? A/ Many people regard computers as an antisocial pass-time, as generally only one person can use a computer at a time. A LAN brings people together in a social atmosphere, it gets people out of the house and mixing with others that have similar interests, it's fun, safe and educational. Q/ What do you do at a LAN? A/ Many things become possible at a LAN. Most enjoy playing games, the benefits include a host of others to play with/against, and if you've tried to play your favourite game over the internet, then you have probably experienced the frustration of slow, laggy connections. LANs offer high speed connections without the need to pay for costly internet access. Also many people like to swap files and programs, if you've ever tried to send someone a large file over the internet, then you would know that it can take forever to transfer. It takes seconds at a LAN. Many just like making new friends and enjoying the atmosphere. It is also a great learning experience, where people swap ideas and knowledge. Q/ What does my computer need to be able to connect to a LAN? A/ A 10/100 Network card and a computer that is suitable for game playing. A power board is required if your computer uses more than one port, and a friendly attitude also goes a long way to make sure everyone has a great time. Under 15 year olds are welcome, but we will require parental permission, or supervision, as many of the games are rated M15+. Q/ How long have these events been running? A/ These events have been running at least a few times a year, since 1998. More recently, there have been as many as 10 events a year. Q/ What sort of games can be played?
